principle of binominal nomenclature According to the Code, the principle that the scientific name of a species, and not of a taxon at any other rank, is a combination of two names, the first being the generic name and the second the specific name. The principle applies to the names of species, and the fact that family-group and genus-group names are uninominal and subspecies names trinominal is not inconsistent with the principle. Names interpolated into a binomen are also not inconsistent with the principle.　
二名式命名原則 根據命名規約，此原則指的是種的學名，而不是任何其他層級的分類單元，是由二個名稱的組合，第一個為屬名，第二個為種名。此原則適用於種的名稱，事實上科群與屬群的名稱是不能插入的，而且三名式的亞種命名也與此原則不符合。二名式內被竄改的名稱也與此原則不符合。
