sensory canal Lateral line, a tube-like sensory organ beneath the skin (usually bearing pores) extending along the side of the body. Detects water movements, low frequency vibrations and perhaps temperature changes. In some fishes the sensory organs are uncovered (without a tube or pores). The lateral line is innervated by the vagus or Xth cranial nerve. The similar sensory system on the head, often called the cephalic sensory canals, is differently innervated. Lateral lines may be single, multiple, complete (extend to the base of the caudal fin) or incomplete, have accessory branches, be decurved, recurved, arched. etc.　
感覺管 側線，一個埋在皮膚下且沿著體側延伸的管狀感覺器官 (通常長著小孔)。可探察水中運動、低頻率的震動以及或許溫度上的改變。在一些魚中，感覺器官是裸露的(沒有管或小孔)。側線的神經與迷走神經或第十對頭蓋神經相連結。在頭部上相類似的感覺系統，時常被稱為頭部感覺管，是一種不同的神經分佈。側線可能是單條、倍數條、完全的(延伸到尾鰭基底) 或不完全的、有附屬的分支、向下彎曲的、後彎的和弓形的等等。
