deep scaterring layer (DSL) A more or less well defined layer present in most oceanic waters which reflects sound from echosounding equipment; produced by stratified populations of organisms which scatter sound waves and are recorded on an echo-sounder as a horizontal layer; false bottom. 　
深海散射層 大洋深水域中普遍存在的生物聚居的水平層。英文簡稱DSL。其中較密集的浮游生物和魚類，受聲波照射時能產生較強的散射回波。這些物種通常具有日週期的垂直遷移行為，因此散射層有夜晚上升/日間下降的情形 。
