形態特徵

體長圓而側扁。頭大。吻長。眼大。D. VI-9；A. II，8；P. 14-16；GR. (1-4)3-5+1+13-16(1-2)。體金黃色，眼部貫穿短暗縱帶，尾柄具一大黑斑。本種魚常見於日本、臺灣，以往均被誤鑑為金線天竺鯛(A. cyanosoma)。唯本種之發育完全之鰓耙數少於金線天竺鯛(17-21 V.S. 22-23)且體側上縱帶之寬度明顯地比金線天竺鯛寬。而其尾柄上之黑斑前後外凸，也有別於黃天竺鯛(A. aureus)之內凹。Apogon fleurieu為同種異名。

棲所生態

主要棲息於淺水域礁區，也發現在受潮水影響的海峽或河口域。以多毛類以及其它小型底棲無脊椎動物為食。 
地理分布

分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起紅海，東至臺灣。臺灣分布於北部及澎湖等海域。 
漁業利用

通常以下雜魚處理，用作魚飼料，有時會曬成小魚乾自家食用，並無任何經濟價值。
