Characteristic Dorsal fin with XIII-IX spines and 15-16 soft rays; anal fin with 14-16 soft rays; pectoral fin with 14 soft rays; lateral line scales 61-64; gill rakers 1 + 6; vertebrae 11+21. Rostral projection formed by 1 outer large spine and several inner short spines fin with whitish spots scattered over inner surface of the fin, and a large blackish-blue blotch on lower 1/2 of inner surface.
habitats Inhabit demersal marine environment, sandy mud bottom. Attains 20cm TL. Other ecological is not clear yet. 
Distribution Indo-West Pacific: southern Japan, Taiwan to the South China Sea and the Philippines. Also found in the Arafura Sea and Australia, a new record for the northeastern Indian Ocean. 
Utility Not commercial food species.
