Characteristic Head moderately compressed, shaped like a blunt awl. Mouth large and protractile. Lower jaw protruded, posterior end of upper jaw behind posterior margin of eye, both upper and lower jaw with teeth. Body cylindrical, elongated like a snake, posterior laterally compressed. Pectoral fin small; dorsal, anal and caudal fins united; dorsal fin origin closely near anal fin origin; distance between dorsal fin origin and anal fin origin shorter than 1﹪of total length; vertebrae 106-115. Plain colored, dark brown dorsally, white anteroventrally. 
Habitats Demersal, catadromous fish. Rest in rivers, brackish and marine areas. Biology not well known. 
Distribution Distributed from India to the West Pacific.
