Characteristic Body anteriorly depressed, posteriorly subcylindrical to compressed. Eyes generally large, located dorsolaterally. Snout protruding anterior. Mouth small. A single short dorsal fin located posteriorly, usually positioned directly above anal fin, dorsal fin with 8 soft rays and anal fin with 7 soft rays,both fins near caudal fin, but not connected to it by membrane; pectoral fins moderate sized, with rounded border, modified to support ventral sucking disc; pelvic fins modified to forma sucking disc on breast, sucking disc dobble type; caudal fin rounded. Skin scaleless, covered with a thick layer of mucous; lower jaw without mandibular canal pores and also without preopercular canal pores. Colour red with one white stripes on upper half of head and body, and another white stripes on dorsal parts.
habitats Inhabits rocky shores and coral reefs. Among red algae and sea urchins. 
Distribution Distributed in the tropical West Pacific from Japan and Taiwan to Western Central Pacific. It is very rare and only found in northeastern Taiwanese waters. 
Utility No commercial value.
