Characteristic A small, very slender requiem shark with a long snout and big eye. First dorsal origin behind pectoral free rear tips. Second dorsal fin much smaller than 1st, its origin about over anal insertion. Anal fin larger than 2nd dorsal fin, with very long preanal ridges. Colour grayish to brownish without a prominent colour pattern.
habitats A tropical and subtropical inshore shark of the continental and insular shelves, found in moderately shallow waters, at depth 7-80 m. Viviparous, with a yolk-sac placenta. Litter size 2-4. maximum size 91 cm. Males maturing at 62-66 and females maturing a 
Distribution Indo-West Pacific including South Africa, Madagascar, Seychelles, Red Sea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Japan, The Philippines, Australia. 
Utility This species is particularly important in southeastern India. It is taken in floating and bottom gillnets and longlines. Its flesh is utilized fresh for human consumption.
