postovulatory follicles (POF) Evacuated follicles that remain in the ovary when the hydrated oocytes are released into the lumen. In northern anchovy, each hydrated oocyte is surrounded by a thinly stretched follicle of an inner, epithelial layer of granulosa cells and a single, outer connective tissue layer of theca cells with some blood capillaries. At ovulation, the fully hydrated oocytes are released from their encompassing follicles. The follicle does not fragment and pass out of the ovary with the hydrated oocyte but retains its integrity. These are called postovulatory follicles and are used as indicators of previous spawning. 　
排卵後的卵泡 (POF) 當成水化合物的卵母細胞被釋入內腔中的時候，殘留在卵巢的卵泡會被剝離。 在北方鯷魚中，每個成水化合物的卵母細胞是被一個薄伸展的內部卵泡所包圍，是粒狀細胞的上皮層且單一，外鞘細胞的外部結締組織層有一些血液微血管。在排卵時，整個成水化合物的卵母細胞從包圍它們的卵泡內被釋放。 卵泡不會成碎片，並且跟成水化合物的卵母細胞從卵巢通過，但仍保有它原來的狀態，這些就被稱為排卵後的卵泡，且被用於預測產卵。
