Characteristic HL 6.8-8.1, DGO 13.9-16.5, TR 3.0-3.5 in TL, Vert 131-133. Ground color blackish brown to greenish brown body with numerous wavy, net-like whitish lines across the body. Darker snout; Yellowish green top of head when alive; darker mouth corner in some individuals.
habitats A common species on reef flats among rocks, rubble, or in lagoons and seaward reefs. Nocturnal species that feeds on fishes, octopi, and probably crustaceans. Used in Chinese medicine. 
Distribution Indo-Pacific: Red Sea and East Africa, north to southern Japan, Taiwan and the Hawaiian Islands, south to the southern Great Barrier Reef; throughout Micronesia.
