Characteristic Body moderately slender, subcylindrical anteriorly to moderately compressed posteriorly, moderately elongate. Head moderate. Eye large, round, lateral with teardrop-shaped pupil. Teeth small; outer tooth patch of lower jaw in 2 approximate rows, middle of anterior margin of vomer toothless. Dorsal fin short based and high, before middle of body, with 10 to 12 rays; anal fin far behind dorsal fin, with 9 to 11 rays. Body yellowish brown, with dusky mottlings; tapetum of eye brilliant green in freshly caught specimens. Caudal fin without black posterior margin.
habitats Benthic or benthopelagic outer shelf and slope fishes. It inhabits from 260 to 950 m depth. Feed as carnivores on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. 
Distribution Distributed from southern Japan to the Philippines. It found in southern and northeastern Taiwanese waters. 
Utility Marketed fresh, and eaten fried and broiled.
