Characteristic Body moderately slender, subcylindrical anteriorly to moderately compressed posteriorly, moderately elongate. Head moderate; head length 26.2-29.7% standard length. Eye large, round, lateral with teardrop-shaped pupil; eye diameter 10.7-13.0% standard length. Teeth small; outer tooth patch of lower jaw trapezoidal, middle of anterior margin of vomer with teeth. Dorsal fin short based and high, before middle of body, with 10 to 12 rays; anal fin far behind dorsal fin, with 8 to 10 rays; Pectoral fin short, its posterior end not reaching posterior end pelvic fin when depressed. Body yellowish brown, with dusky mottlings; tapetum of eye brilliant green in freshly caught specimens. Caudal fin without black posterior margin.
habitats Benthic or benthopelagic outer shelf and slope fishes. It inhabits from 250 to 620 m depth. Feed as carnivores on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. 
Distribution Distributed from southern Japan to the Philippines. Recorded from the Chesterfield Islands and the Indian Ocean waters of Indonesia. It found in southern and northeastern Taiwanese waters. 
Utility Marketed fresh, and eaten fried and broiled.
