Characteristic	Head small, laterally compressed, triangular. Snout short, pointed. Eye large. Mouth protractile, slightly oblique; lips thin; barbels absent. Body compressed, body depth high; dorsal and ventral profile arched; keel on belly between pelvic fin origin and anal fin origin. Scales cycloid, large; lateral line complete. L.l.：54-60; dorsal fin rays：III, 7; pectoral fin rays：1+15-16; pelvic fin rays：1+7; anal fin rays：3+21-23. Pectoral fin end close to pelvic fin origin; pelvic fin at lower side of body; anal fin base long; caudal fin forked. Olive brown dorsally, side and belly grayish. The young slightly transparent with an inconspicuous silver stripe on side.
habitats	Primary freshwater fish, prefers deep pools with slow running water, can be found in lakes and backwaters of rivers. Polyphagia, feed on diatom, crustacean and aquatic insects.
Distribution	Distributed to middle reach of Pearl River and Taiwan. Can be found in Tanshui River of northern Taiwan.
Utility	Potential ornamental fish.
