Mouth inferior with a long barbel, relatively small body scales, and spineless scales behind first dorsal fin. Head comparatively small; snout short and broad, angulated along the anterolateral edge; tip of snout without spinulous tubercle. Teeth conical in band on both jaws. Second dorsal spine finely serrated except for the basal portion. Spinules on body scales slender, not triangular in shape, arranged in quincunx order. Luminous organ small, between pelvic bases. Sides of head and body bright silvery. First dorsal fin blackish, with white base and tip.
habitats Benthopelagic fishes in the deep sea. A rare species of macrourids from the upper continental slope off northwestern Taiwan at depths between 400m and 800m. Food of these fishes consists of a wide range of fish and both benthic and pelagic invertebrates.
