Characteristic Dorsal rays 13; anal rays 7; pectoral rays 10-11. Body deep, globose, slightly compressed; mouth oblique to vertical; gill open small, behind and below pectoral-fin base; skin cover with close-set dermal spinules; illicium about equal to length of second dorsal spine; esca simple, with unpigmented sphere of irregularly folded tissue; anterior end of pterygiophore posterior to symphysis of upper jaw; second dorsal spine free from the head; cross area between second and third dorsal spine naked; dorsal fin with a dark pigmented spot; caudal peduncle present; last ray of pelvic fin biturate.
habitats It inhabits shallow marine bottom at rocky and coral reefs, always mimics surrounding sponges and coral reef. Always using the stalked pectoral and pelvic fins to slowly walk across the bottom. First dorsal spine highly modified into a long rod with a lur 
Distribution Widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical region of three major oceans except the Wastern Pacific. In Taiwan, it occurs in southern off Pingtung.
