Body brilliant red without any stripe; preopercular ridge smooth; the well developed gill-raker on the first gill-arch 9; lateral line scale 23 - 24; second spine of first dorsal no reach to the second dorsal origin when depressed; caudal fin forked; adult size smaller than 6 cm.
habitats Found in shallow water and observed to be active only at night, near the bottom, and never far from its shelter. Feeds on polychaetes and other small benthic invertebrates. 
Distribution Eastern Central Pacific: known only from the Hawaiian Islands and Johnston Island. Reports of occurrence in other Indo-West Pacific countries are questionable.
