habitats Found in fairly deep (50 m) sheltered water. In schools above sandy bottom near a sea anemone in bays to 80 m offshore. Feeds on zooplankton and other small benthic invertebrates.  
Distribution Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea to Inhaca Island and eastward to the Philippines and New Guinea, north to Japan, south to northern Australia.
