Characteristic Body elongate, depressed. Head extremely depressed. Preopercular spine straight with 2-4 short processes on inner side. In males, 1st and 2nd dorsal spines elongate and filamentous; vertral sidae of body with many small dark spots; 1st dorsal fin with 3 broad oblique black bands. In females, 1st dorsal fin light yellowish-brown,and with two black spots on 2nd membrane. Other fins transparent in both sexes.
habitats Found on sand bottoms. 
Distribution Distributed in the Indo-West Pacific from Persian Gulf to China, Indonesia, Borneo, New Guinea, Philippines and the southern part of southeast Asia. It is possibly found in southern Taiwanese waters. 
Utility No commercial value.
