habitats Occurs singly or in small groups in inshore reef and lagoon environments; depth rahge 0.5-6 m. Feeds on algae, gastropods, and small crabs. Highly territorial. 
Distribution Widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific from eastern Indian Ocean, north to Japan, south to Australia. It is a common species in Taiwan except weastern part. 
Utility No commercial value.
