Characteristic Dorsal rays XIII, 11-13; Anal rays II, 12-14; pectoral rays 18-19; lateral-line scales 15-17; Gill rakers 23-26; body depth 2.1-2.4 in standard length. Body moderate to slender. Posterior margin of preopercle smooth. Body white with 3 black transverse bands.
habitats Inhabits lagoon and inshore reefs around coral or rock outcrops situated in sandy areas at depth of 10 to 40m. Solitary. 
Distribution Distributed in the western Pacific, including southern Japan, Australia (near Sydney), Coral Sea (Holmes Reef), New Caledonia, Fiji, and Samoa; also in Ryukyu Islands (Ref. 2334). Reported from Indonesia. It is very rare and only found in Lyudao, southeas
