Characteristic	Body elongate. Dorsal fin with III relatively stout spines and 25 or 26 rays; anal fin with III stout spines and 15 rays; caudal fin rounded. Lateral line disjunct, consisting of an anterodorsal series of 21 to 26 tubed scales, and a peduncular series of 7 tubed scales. Body brown with 5 to 8 dark gray longitudinal stripes; caudal-fin base with a large black oval blotch.
habitats	Found among the interstices of overlapping laminar corals or near the bases of whorled corals on coral reef drop-offs in depths of 18-20 m, also in crevices in 15-37 m depth.
Distribution	Distributed in the Western Pacific including Philippines, Taiwan and Ryukyu Islands. It is found in southern Taiwanese waters.
Utility	No commercial value.
