Characteristic Dorsal continuing, with X spines and 15-17 soft rays, the 3rd longest, elongate in male; anal fin with III spines & 7 soft rays; pelvic fin abdomen; pectoral rays 17-19; caudal fin truncate. Lateral line continuing, lateral line scales 42-47. Body reddish orange, body back middle yellow, abdomen pale, lateral with yellow stripe in male and red blotch in dorsal fin.
habitats Occurs in coastal reefs, along deep slopes, usually in small aggregations. 
Distribution Western Pacific: Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, and the northern Great Barrier Reef. 
Utility Small perchlet, not commercial food species, but aquarium species.
