Characteristic Dorsal-fin rays 79-83; anal-fin rays 60-64; pectoral-fin rays 11-12. Caudal fin without a pair of jet-black blotches. Mouth rather large, maxillary extending below middle of lower eye. Pectoral rays elongated into filaments, greatly longer than head length.
habitats Inhabits sandy and muddy areas of the continental shelf. Feeds on crustaceans, polychaetes, and other bottom-living animals. 
Distribution Indo-West Pacific: Maldives, Philippines, Borneo, northern and northwestern Australia, Coral Sea, Taiwan, and southern Japan. Taiwan: North-East.
