Characteristic Dorsal-fin rays 91-99; anal-fin rays 70-82; pectoral-fin rays 10-11. Similar to P. gigantea but differs from it by a small mouth (3.3.to 3.9 times in head length), few scales on the lateral line, few pectoral rays, and pale snout and jaws.
