Characteristic	Dorsal fin with XIII- XIV spines and 11-15 soft rays; anal fin with I spines and 11-14 soft rays; pectoral rays 13; pelvic fin 13-14. Body almost black and covered with velvety prickles. Preopercle with 5 blunt spines. Attains 10 cm TL.
habitats	Inhabits sandy or mud bottoms in shallow waters. Other ecological behavior is unclear.
Distribution	Northwest Pacific: Sagami Bay and Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan southward to China. Recently reported from New Caledonia.
Utility	Not commercial food species, rarely.
