Characteristic	Dorsal fin with XII-XIII spines and 12-13 soft rays; anal fin with II spines and 11-12 soft rays. Coloration is tan to light gray covered with numerous small reddish-brown spots and has a notched dorsal fin.
habitats	Inhabits shallow reef crests, usually exposed to moderate surge. Common among the branches of pocilloporid corals.
Distribution	Indo-Pacific: East Indies to the Line, Marquesan, and Austral Islands; north to southern Japan; throughout Micronesia.
