Characteristic	Dorsal fin with XII spines and 9 soft rays; anal fin with III spines and 5 soft rays; pectoral fin with 17-19 soft rays; lateral-line scales 22-24; longitudinal scales series 45-49; gill rakers 5+8-10; body depth 2.6-3.15 in SL; head length 2.2-2.4 in SL; snout length 3.2-3.45 in head length. Distinct median interorbital ridge. No extra spine anterior to each tympanic spine; occipital pit shallow, not quadrangular. Ridge above anterior lacrimal spine with a pointed tip. Upper opercular spine single, narrow and without a median ridge. Space between opercular spines without ridges. Supraocular tentacle well-developed.
habitats	Inhabits demersal marine environment, depth 1-90m. Many specimens have been collected by trawls at depth up to 60m. However the species also occurs in shallow water. One was speared by John Randall in only 1m on silty sand near an isolated rock off Manado
Distribution	Indo-West Pacific: Pakistan and Sri Lanka to New Britain, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea. Taiwan: three specimens collected in south Taiwan.
