Characteristic Dorsal fin with VIII-IX spines and 14-16 soft rays; anal fin with 14-16 soft rays; pectoral fin with 14 soft rays; lateral line scales 64-67; gill rakers 1+8-9; vertebrae 11-12 + 21-23. Rostral projection fromed by 1 large outer spine and several inner short spines. Inner surface of pectoral fin with a large blackish-blue blotch on the lower 1/2, and small whitish spots scattered in the blotch.
habitats Inhabit demersal marine environment, sandy mud bottom, depth range 40 - 140 m. Almost moving near bottom slowly. Attain 20 cm TL. 
Distribution Northwest Pacific: southern Japan, Taiwan and the East China Sea.  
Utility Not commercial food species, and utilized as scrap
