Characteristic Dorsal spines connect with soft rays X, 13-15, V-VII longest; anal rays: III, 6-8. Pectoral fin elongated, 13-15, middle ones loger than others, SL to 40 mm. Caudal fin truncated or rounded. Body white, lateral irregular brownish stripes; dorsal and anal fin posterior edge with a black dot, caudal peduncle upper and lower also with a black dot. Closely resembles P. longimanus but has more pectoral fin rays and pored lateral line scales
habitats A secretive species that inhabits coral or rubble habitats of deep channels and exposed reefs, demersal, carnivorous, feed on small fish and crustacean. 
Distribution Indo-Pacific: Cocos-Keeling and Christmas islands to Hawaii, Line, and Pitcairn islands; including Micronesia, including the Red Sea. South Taiwan and Greed Island (Lyu-Dao) 
Utility Small perchlet, not commercial species, too small for food.
